Preserving History
The Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania owns and operates the Senator John Heinz History Center, near downtown Pittsburgh. The History Center is the largest history museum in Pennsylvania and an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute.
The Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania directs annual distributions from The Dietrich Foundation to support a specific exhibition or unique educational program selected by the Heinz History Center each year. For example, in 2018 the funds were dedicated to support Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission, a traveling exhibition with the Columbia Command Module from the Smithsonian.
